Q & A

Questions and answers

Do we still need another art fair in or around Vienna?

Yes.
Especially because established formats have recently disappeared or are no longer taking place:

art.baden deliberately fills this gap – with a new, sustainable concept.

  • A variety of new formats could successfully be established in Vienna within the last 3 years.

Does this fair stand a chance?

Yes.
• The City of Baden explicitly supports art.baden as a cultural and tourism project
• The departments of museums & culture and tourism & economy are actively involved
• Through its supra-regional photo festival, Baden has experience in addressing German-speaking and international audiences (including via art media)
• High-level political representation has been invited (e.g. the Governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, for the opening on 24 July)

Why hasn’t there long been an art fair in Baden?

A justified question – art.baden is the logical consequence of:
• a high density of cultural institutions
• UNESCO World Heritage status - Great Spas of Europe
• international recognition
• and a unique historical as well as infrastructural setting

Is the Casino / Kurhaus suitable as a fair venue?

Yes – in every respect.
• Multiple halls with ceiling heights of over 3 and up to 6 metres
• Additional salons and ancillary spaces
• Complete infrastructure:
– ground-level delivery zone directly at the building
– freight elevator with a depth of 5 metres
– in-house and event technology available 24 hours
– cloakroom, catering, ATM, restaurants, etc.

Isn’t it a pity to spend a summer day at an air-conditioned fair?

No – on the contrary.
The opening hours are deliberately scheduled for the late afternoon and evening to allow visitors to:
• spend the day in the historic parklands
• at the legendary thermal bath Strandbad Baden (since 1926!)
• or along the Schwechat River in the Vienna Woods

and only then visit the fair.
As part of art.night, Baden’s museums also remain open longer.
The fair invites visitors to network until 11:00 p.m.; the venue itself, with casino operations, remains open until 3:00 a.m.
